John’s Top Recurring Meetings
Virtual meetings are easy to attend, but regular attendance at annual in-person events is the key to building your network and gaining deeper insight. My personal favorites for such in-person meetings are below. Of particular value for developers, the small meeting format of BEAM’s AMR Conference (March) and GAMRIC (September-October; formerly, the ESCMID-ASM conference series) creates excellent global networking. IDWeek (October) and ECCMID (April) are much larger meetings but also provide opportunities for networking with a substantial, focused audience via their Pipeline sessions. Hope to see you there!

  • 22-24 Sep 2026 (Lisbon, Portugal): The 2nd GAMRIC, the Global AMR Innovators Conference (London, UK). Formerly the ESCMID-ASM (or ASM-ESCMID depending on location) Joint Conference on Drug Development for AMR, 2026 will be the 11th year for this series that is now under the joint sponsorship of CARB-X, ESCMID, BEAM Alliance, GARDP, LifeArc, Boston University, and AMR.Solutions. The ongoing series employs the successful format of prior meetings with a single-track meeting and substantial networking time. The 2025 meeting was a sell-out success! A written summary of the 2025 meeting is here and the videos from the sessions are now available here. Registration for the 2026 meeting is now open and you can view the preliminary program here. Abstract submissions are open through Fri 10 Apr at noon CET; note as well that travel grants are available for attendees with accepted abstracts. A late-breaker window be announced for July.
  • 21-24 Oct 2026 (Washington, DC, USA): IDWeek 2026, the annual meeting of the Infectious Diseases Society of America. I would expect the program to continue to provide a substantial opportunity to present a product to a large audience (see also adjacent note about ESCMID) as well as opportunities to present at an IDWeek Pipeline Session.
  • 23-24 Mar 2027 (Basel, Switzerland): The 10th AMR Conference (3-4 Mar 2026) is now over and offered a rich program that included a 10-year retrospective (we’ve done a lot!), regulatory updates, discussions of how to pursue development in China, and much more … in addition to being a superb opportunity for networking! I am told the session videos will soon be available on the conference website. Mark your calendars for next year’s 11th AMR Conference!
  • 9-13 April 2027 (Stockholm, Sweden): ESCMID Global 2027, the annual meeting of the European Society for Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases. Details won’t be out for some months, but the website is here. I do know that the meeting schedule will again include a Science Policy Forum on Friday 9 April 2027 (see here the newsletter about the 2026 science policy forum) and all who are interested in Pull incentives and the antibiotic ecosystem should plan to be there!)..

Patrice Courvalin orchestrates content with the support of an all-star scientific committee and faculty.   • CARB-X have announced a funding round that will be open 8-22 April 2026 (there will also be a round during 4Q 2026). There are 4 funding themes as below. Informational webinars have been announced for 9 and 10 April 2026.
    • Direct-acting therapeutics for infections caused by Gram-negative bacteria
    • Novel Chemistry for AMR Challenge – target-based therapeutics.
    • Non-vaccine approaches to prevent neonatal sepsis
    • Diagnostics for neonatal sepsis
  • The Horizon Europe Work Programme 2026-2027 includes at least 3 calls of interest within its Cluster 1 — see the list below.  The application window starts 10 Feb 2026 and closes on 16 Apr 2026. See also the 12 Dec 2025 newsletter about the call. Note as well that there calls for agents to prevent and/or treat viral infections.
    • HORIZON-HLTH-2027-01-DISEASE-08: Development of innovative antimicrobials against pathogens resistant to antimicrobials
    • HORIZON-HLTH-2027-02-IND-02: Portable point-of-care diagnostics
    • HORIZON-HLTH-2026-01-DISEASE-03:Advancing research on the prevention, diagnosis, and management of post-infection long-term conditions. 
  • ENABLE-2 has continuously open calls for both its Hit-to-Lead program as well as its Hit Identification/Validation incubator. Applicants must be academics and non-profits in Europe due to restrictions from the funders. Applications are evaluated in cycles … see the website for details on current timing for reviews. 
  • BARDA’s long-running BAA (Broad Agency Announcement) for medical countermeasures (MCMs) for chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) threats, pandemic influenza, and emerging infectious diseases is now BAA-23-100-SOL-00004 and offers support for both antibacterial and antifungal agents (as well as antivirals, antitoxins, diagnostics, and more). Note especially these Areas of Interest: Area 3.1 (MDR Bacteria and Biothreat Pathogens), Area 3.2 (MDR Fungal Infections), and Area 7.2 (Antibiotic Resistance Diagnostics for Priority Bacterial Pathogens). Although prior BAAs used a rolling cycle of 4 deadlines/year, the updated BAA released 26 Sep 2023 has a 5-year application period that ends 25 Sep 2028 and is open to applicants regardless of location: BARDA seeks the best science from anywhere in the world! See also this newsletter for further comments on the BAA and its areas of interest.
  • HERA Invest was launched August 2023 with €100 million to support innovative EU-based SMEs in the early and late phases of clinical trials. Part of the InvestEU program supporting sustainable investment, innovation, and job creation in Europe, HERA Invest is open for application to companies developing medical countermeasures that address one of the following cross-border health threats: (i) Pathogens with pandemic or epidemic potential, (ii) Chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) threats originating from accidental or deliberate release, and (iii) Antimicrobial resistance (AMR). Non-dilutive venture loans covering up to 50% of investment costs are available. A closing date is not posted insofar as I can see — applications are accepted on a rolling basis; go here for more details.
  • The AMR Action Fund is open on an ongoing basis to proposals for funding of Phase 2 / Phase 3 antibacterial therapeutics. Per its charter, the fund prioritizes investment in treatments that address a pathogen prioritized by the WHO, the CDC and/or other public health entities that: (i) are novel (e.g., absence of known cross-resistance, novel targets, new chemical classes, or new mechanisms of action); and/or (ii) have significant differentiated clinical utility (e.g., differentiated innovation that provides clinical value versus standard of care to prescribers and patients, such as safety/tolerability, oral formulation, different spectrum of activity); and (iii) reduce patient mortality. It is also expected that such agents would have the potential to strongly address the likely requirements for delinked Pull incentives such as the UK (NHS England) subscription pilot and the PASTEUR Act in the US.   • INCATE (Incubator for Antibacterial Therapies in Europe) is an early-stage funding vehicle supporting innovation vs. drug-resistant bacterial infections. The fund provides advice, community, and non-dilutive funding (€10k in Stage I and up to €250k in Stage II) to support early-stage ventures in creating the evidence and building the team needed to get next-level funding.   • These things aren’t sources of funds but would help you develop funding applications
    • The Global AMR R&D Hub’s dynamic dashboard (link) summarizes the global clinical development pipeline, incentives for AMR R&D, and investors/investments in AMR R&D. See also the 7 Feb 2026 newsletter (“The global funding pipeline, 2017-2023: A review”) about an excellent deep dive by the Hub team into patterns of funding over time.
    • Antimicrobial Resistance Research and Innovation in Australia is an actively updated summary that covers Australia’s AMR research and patent landscape. It is provided via collaboration between The Lens (an ambitious project seeking to discover, analyse, and map global innovation knowledge) and CSIRO (Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation, an Australian Government agency responsible for scientific research). Lots to explore here!
    • Diagnostic developers would find valuable guidance in this 6-part series on in vitro diagnostic (IVD) development. Sponsored by CARB-X, C-CAMP, and FIND, it pulls together real-life insights into a succinct set of tutorials.

Dear All,

I have learned that UK’s MHRA (Medicines & Healthcare products Regulatory Agency) is recruiting for the role of Chief Medical and Scientific Officer. As you would expect, the role is very senior! The person in the role will:

  • Represent the MHRA across the medical and scientific communities
  • Act as a senior advocate for evidence-based, effective regulation
  • Lead the Agency’s Science and Innovation Group
  • Drive scientific excellence across the organization
  • Shape the MHRA’s scientific direction and regulatory strategy

  • The AMR Industry Alliance is again offering a Stewardship Prize of 10,000 CHF to recognize innovative approaches to combating AMR in low-to-moderate-income countries. This year’s prize focuses on utilizing diagnostics in stewardship efforts. Applications are due by 1 Sep 2025. Go here for details and to apply.
  • NNF (Novo Nordisk Foundation) have announced their “Challenge Programme 2026 – Unravelling the Pathways of Human Invasive Fungal Diseases. The call seeks applications from EU-centered consortia (global partners are possible) for research in 4 areas: (i) fungal virulence factors, (ii) host-pathogen interactions, (iii) mechanisms of anti-fungal resistance, and (iv) fungal disease markers. Applications are due by 8 Oct 2025. Go here for details. 
  • ENABLE-2 has continuously open calls for both its Hit-to-Lead program as well as its Hit Identification/Validation incubator. Applicants must be academics and non-profits in Europe due to restrictions from the funders.   • 12 Sep 2025 (Ghent, BE): The 10-11 Sep 2025 meeting just above is followed in Ghent on 12 Sep by the 4th annual meeting of BSVoM (Belgian Society for Viruses of Microbes). Dear All,

I have learned that the Ineos Oxford Institute for Antimicrobial Research (IOI) has started a job search for a Director for the IOI.

As background, IOI was created in 2021 with a  £100m donation from INEOS, one of the world’s largest manufacturing companies (Wikipedia; INEOS corporate website). Per their research webpage, IOI is an 80-person group currently conducting research on animal antibiotics, human antibiotics, global surveillance of AMR, and bioinformatics (digital microbiology and evolution). And as deeper background, Oxford has a long history of antibiotic research — Chain, Florey, and other colleagues did the foundational work that enabled extraction and purification of penicillin at scale.

Here are several excerpts from the online job posting and extended job description brochure: 

  • “The overall aim of this role is to establish the IOI’s reputation as a world-leading and sustainable AMR hub and extend its reach by developing and implementing partnerships with organisations which are aligned to, and have a shared interest in, the values and strategy of IOI.”
  • “The successful candidate will ideally have existing relationships with at least one group of key stakeholders including funders, NGOs, policy makers, and pharma.
  • “The Director should be highly research active prior to this role and space in the state-of-the art laboratories will be made available to their group in the Life and Mind Building in Autumn 2025.”
  • “It is anticipated that the Director will also be a member of the Department of Chemistry or Biology depending upon their area of scientific expertise.”
  • The Director will “Chair the Executive Committee (the key decision-making body of the Institute) and other relevant committees and meetings, providing highly effective leadership and strategic input.”

Current funding opportunities

  • The first RFP for Gr-ADI, the Gram-Negative Antibiotic Discovery Innovator, announced on 11 Feb 2025 by the Novo Nordisk Foundation (NNF), Wellcome, and the Gates Foundation (GF) is open until 25 Mar 2025. This initial RFP seeks proposals to (i) genome-scale tools that find new chemical start points, (ii) find technologies that would select/targets leads with propensity for resistance, (iii) better understand how/why compounds penetrate the bacterial cell, and (iv) develop approaches to finding new chemical leads vs. validated targets for which there is no current Phase 3 development program. It’s clear that additional RFPs will follow … it’s quite a project! See the 11 Feb 2025 newsletter for details.
  • EMA have posted a call for tenders under which they will provide up to 16m EUR for project that would “perform studies on the quality, safety and efficacy of human and veterinary medicines that would provide complementary evidence to support regulatory decision-making.” The deadline to apply is 30 April 2025. See this 17 Feb 2025 newsletter for details.
  • HERA plans to post a call on 4 April 2025 in which they will call for tenders under which they will provide up to 13m EUR for development of a point-of-care diagnostic medical device that can provide antimicrobial susceptibility results on the bacteria or fungi causing an infection in humans, within one hour or less from subject sample collection, and ideally, to also allow for pathogen identification.   • ENABLE-2 has continuously open calls for both its Hit-to-Lead program as well as its Hit Identification/Validation incubator. Applicants must be academics and non-profits in Europe due to restrictions from the funders. Applications are evaluated in cycles … see the website for details on current timing for reviews. 
  • CARB-X has open calls at intervals that span four areas: (i) Therapeutics for Gram-Negatives, (ii) Prevention for Invasive Disease, (iii) Diagnostics for Neonatal Sepsis, and (iv) Proof-Of-Concept for Diagnosing Lower-Respiratory-Tract Infections.   • BARDA’s long-running BAA (Broad Agency Announcement) for medical countermeasures (MCMs) for chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) threats, pandemic influenza, and emerging infectious diseases is now BAA-23-100-SOL-00004 and offers support for both antibacterial and antifungal agents (as well as antivirals, antitoxins, diagnostics, and more). Note especially these Areas of Interest: Area 3.1 (MDR Bacteria and Biothreat Pathogens), Area 3.2 (MDR Fungal Infections), and Area 7.2 (Antibiotic Resistance Diagnostics for Priority Bacterial Pathogens). Although prior BAAs used a rolling cycle of 4 deadlines/year, the updated BAA released 26 Sep 2023 has a 5-year application period that ends 25 Sep 2028 and is open to applicants regardless of location: BARDA seeks the best science from anywhere in the world!   • HERA Invest was launched August 2023 with €100 million to support innovative EU-based SMEs in the early and late phases of clinical trials. Part of the InvestEU program supporting sustainable investment, innovation, and job creation in Europe, HERA Invest is open for application to companies developing medical countermeasures that address one of the following cross-border health threats: (i) Pathogens with pandemic or epidemic potential, (ii) Chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) threats originating from accidental or deliberate release, and (iii) Antimicrobial resistance (AMR). Non-dilutive venture loans covering up to 50% of investment costs are available. A closing date is not posted insofar as I can see — applications are accepted on a rolling basis; go here for more details.
  • The AMR Action Fund is open on an ongoing basis to proposals for funding of Phase 2 / Phase 3 antibacterial therapeutics. Per its charter, the fund prioritizes investment in treatments that address a pathogen prioritized by the WHO, the CDC and/or other public health entities that: (i) are novel (e.g., absence of known cross-resistance, novel targets, new chemical classes, or new mechanisms of action); and/or (ii) have significant differentiated clinical utility (e.g., differentiated innovation that provides clinical value versus standard of care to prescribers and patients, such as safety/tolerability, oral formulation, different spectrum of activity); and (iii) reduce patient mortality. It is also expected that such agents would have the potential to strongly address the likely requirements for delinked Pull incentives such as the UK (NHS England) subscription pilot and the PASTEUR Act in the US.   • INCATE (Incubator for Antibacterial Therapies in Europe) is an early-stage funding vehicle supporting innovation vs. drug-resistant bacterial infections. The fund provides advice, community, and non-dilutive funding (€10k in Stage I and up to €250k in Stage II) to support early-stage ventures in creating the evidence and building the team needed to get next-level funding. Current funding opportunities (most current list is here)

  • BARDA’s long-running BAA (Broad Agency Announcement) for medical countermeasures (MCMs) for chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) threats, pandemic influenza, and emerging infectious diseases is now BAA-23-100-SOL-00004 and offers support for both antibacterial and antifungal agents (as well as antivirals, antitoxins, diagnostics, and more). Note especially these Areas of Interest: Area 3.1 (MDR Bacteria and Biothreat Pathogens), Area 3.2 (MDR Fungal Infections), and Area 7.2 (Antibiotic Resistance Diagnostics for Priority Bacterial Pathogens). Although prior BAAs used a rolling cycle of 4 deadlines/year, the updated BAA released 26 Sep 2023 has a 5-year application period that ends 25 Sep 2028 and is open to applicants regardless of location: BARDA seeks the best science from anywhere in the world! See also this newsletter for further comments on the BAA and its areas of interest.
  • ARPA-H has an Open BAA that is accepting applications through 14 March 2024. It is quite wide-ranging in its scope and definitely includes AMR-related projects. See this newsletter for discussion of the BAA and an AMR project that it now supports.
  • HERA Invest was launched August 2023 with €100 million to support innovative EU-based SMEs in the early and late phases of clinical trials. Part of the InvestEU program supporting sustainable investment, innovation, and job creation in Europe, HERA Invest is open for application to companies developing medical countermeasures that address one of the following cross-border health threats: (i) Pathogens with pandemic or epidemic potential, (ii) Chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) threats originating from accidental or deliberate release, and (iii) Antimicrobial resistance (AMR). Non-dilutive venture loans covering up to 50% of investment costs are available. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis; go here for all the details.
  • The ENABLE-2 consortium has announced a call to support hit-to-lead compound development by researchers at publicly-funded European universities. The call is focused on molecules with the potential to be direct-acting therapies for one or more of the following priority pathogens: ESBL-producing/carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae (E. coli, K. pneumoniae), P. aeruginosa, A. baumannii, methicillin-resistant S. aureus, or vancomycin-resistant E. faecium. The Call is open continuously, applications are reviewed at intervals, and funding is non-dilutive. Expressions of interest received before 30 Sep 2023 would be considered in November 2023. Applications received after this date will be evaluated in the spring of 2024 (date to be decided).   • The AMR Action Fund is now open to proposals for funding of Phase 2 / Phase 3 antibacterial therapeutics. Per its charter, the fund prioritizes investment in treatments that address a pathogen prioritized by the WHO, the CDC and/or other public health entities that: (i) are novel (e.g., absence of known cross-resistance, novel targets, new chemical classes, or new mechanisms of action); and/or (ii) have significant differentiated clinical utility (e.g., differentiated innovation that provides clinical value versus standard of care to prescribers and patients, such as safety/tolerability, oral formulation, different spectrum of activity); and (iii) reduce patient mortality. It is also expected that such agents would have the potential to strongly address the likely requirements for delinked Pull incentives such as the UK (NHS England) subscription pilot and the PASTEUR Act in the US.   • INCATE (Incubator for Antibacterial Therapies in Europe) is an early-stage funding vehicle supporting innovation vs. drug-resistant bacterial infections. The fund provides advice, community, and non-dilutive funding (€10k in Stage I and up to €250k in Stage II) to support early-stage ventures in creating the evidence and building the team needed to get next-level funding. The US Presidential Advisory Council on Combating Antibiotic-Resistant Bacteria (PACCARB) has announced it is looking for new members! As a reminder, PACCARB was founded in 2014 and is the advisory body for the US National Action Plan for Combating Antimicrobial Bacteria. The first National Action Plan ran from 2015 to 2020 and the second is currently running until 2025. The WHO has been active in providing guidance on how to implement National Action Plans on AMR by releasing a guidebook and hosting webinars. The WHO also maintains an online library of all current AMR National Action Plans. 

Of the 16 positions available, 9 are for Voting members and 7 are for Non-Voting Liaison members. As a former member of PACCARB, I can tell you it is a highly rewarding experience. With the call for Pull incentives in the Congressional FY23 budget and even the G7 leaders prioritizing AMR, now would be a fabulous time to get involved. 

Applications must include:

  1. A current copy of the nominee’s CV or resume (maximum 30 pages)
  2. A short one-page biography of the nominee specifying their current profession, primary areas of expertise, and their full contact information (email, phone number, and mailing address)
  3. Letters of recommendation or endorsement (maximum 3 for Voting members; 1 from the organization and/or interest group represented for Non-Voting Liaison members)

I have many times previously shared webinars from the excellent policy team at Duke-Margolis Center for Health Policy. Excitingly if you are in search of that type of role, they are now looking for a Policy Analyst who would be located in either Washington, DC or Durham, NC. Here is the verbatim job summary from the posting:

  • This position performs a variety of complex activities in research, writing, and analysis of quantitative and/or qualitative data within the scope of research and policy projects focused on antimicrobial resistance (AMR) at Duke University.
  • The specific topics within antimicrobial resistance vary, but may include policy proposals, innovative payment models, and incentives for antimicrobial product development and availability.
  • Primary responsibilities include conducting health policy-focused background research; drafting summary documents; performing literature reviews; extensive writing for a range of deliverable types (e.g., policy briefs, white papers, blog posts, peer-reviewed publications); and supporting planning and preparation for Center events, public/private convening, and other project activities through both content development and project/ logistics coordination.

Applicants ideally need a Bachelor’s degree in a field related to the position and two years of experience in policy/research/data analysis or related position. Could this be you? There doesn’t appear to be a deadline but I’d advise you apply soon if you are remotely interested!

Separately, please be sure to review the forward agenda. There are two new workshops, including in particular one on phage therapy. I continue to think phage therapy can/will become an important tool but we have yet to see all the pieces come together. The workshop by NIAID and NCATS looks like a very good conversation if you are interested in this area!

Per its charter, the fund prioritizes investment in treatments that address a pathogen prioritized by the WHO, the CDC and/or other public health entities that: (i) are novel (e.g., absence of known cross-resistance, novel targets, new chemical classes, or new mechanisms of action); and/or (ii) have significant differentiated clinical utility (e.g., differentiated innovation that provides clinical value versus standard of care to prescribers and patients, such as safety/tolerability, oral formulation, different spectrum of activity); and (iii) reduce patient mortality. WHO continues on their streak of seeking support for their AMR-related work! Today we have a posting by the Tripartite Joint Secretariat on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) of a consultancy opening for an 11-month project that would support development of multisectoral guidance(s) on development and strengthening of the coordination mechanisms and governance structures for addressing AMR.

Purpose of the consultancy
To provide technical support to the Tripartite Joint Secretariat on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) in the development of a guidance as well as provide advice to countries on the development and strengthening of the coordination mechanisms and governance structures for AMR. 
 
Background
AMR is a global public health threat. It is driven by inappropriate use of antimicrobials in human health, animal and plant health, food production, and through environmental contamination, and as such requires a One Health approach to address it.  The Tripartite Joint Secretariat on AMR consolidates cooperation between the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations, the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE), WHO and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) drawing on their core mandates to support the global response across the One Health spectrum through global advocacy and political engagement, creation of a shared vision and goals, and providing Secretariat services for global governance structures.

The consultancy is located within the Tripartite Joint Secretariat, which is hosted by WHO, and has dedicated liaison officers in FAO and OIE headquarters and works with UNEP. The Secretariat manages the day-to-day operations of the joint work of the Tripartite organizations on AMR including the Multi-Partner Trust Fund (MPTF). The Tripartite has developed a Strategic Framework that sets the vision and objectives of the collaboration for the next five years. The Framework will be launched in November 2022.  A related workplan is being developed that will set the deliverables for the next biennium. 

Analysis of country experience suggests that having an effective multisectoral coordination mechanism is very strongly associated with progress in the implementation of the national action plan.  Developing and sustaining such groups is however politically and practically challenging. This is true of many other health and development issues, and so there is a growing body of experience of what works in different contexts.  Successful approaches will need to be sensitive to context, politics and integrate with broader governance structures.  One size will not fit all, but there are principles and considerations that are widely applicable, and much scope for learning within AMR and within other fields that require collaboration across sectors.

There is an emerging academic literature on multisectoral governance and significant practical country experience. WHO has also published guidance documents on coordination and implementation of AMR National Action Plans and  multisectoral coordination is also covered in the Tripartite Zoonoses guide.  There has also been work on establishing multisectoral coordination through the health in all policies framework, and for other issues such as non-communicable disease. The challenge however is not just to establish these groups but to ensure that they are functional and deliver more coordinated responses and there are appropriate systems and structures to ensure commitment and accountability.

The Tripartite and UNEP have recently developed a Joint strategic framework that will shape their collaborative work for the next few years. Supporting countries to develop country-owned sustainable multisectoral governance to ensure effective and balanced national AMR responses is one of the objectives and it is anticipated that this consultancy will contribute to the delivery of this work.  This initial focus of this work will be through countries that are being funded through the AMR MPTF. This fund was established in 2019 and provides funds to allow the Tripartite to support the One Health approach in eleven low and middle-income countries. 
 
Deliverables
Deliverable 1
Review of existing guidance on One health and multisectoral frameworks for coordination and oversight and relevant academic literature.  Expected by end of February 2022. 
Tasks:

  • Review and consolidation of existing guidance on multisectoral frameworks;
  • Work with relevant teams from FAO, OIE and UNEP to review individual organisations guidance on AMR National Action Plan coordination and governance; 
  • Review country experience (TRACSS analysis, literature reviews, country implementation reviews, etc.) and relevant academic literature. 

Deliverable 2
Prepare a report on the use of the Health in All Policies framework to support multisectoral governance in selected pilot countries. Expected by end March 2022. 
Tasks:

  • Work with other teams and colleagues in WHO and Tripartite organisations to review guidance on multisectoral coordination on other strategic areas to develop a coherent approach that reflects AMR specific issues (e.g. zoonoses, Health in All Policies, NCDs); 
  • Support pilots of this approach at country level. 

Deliverable 3
Prepare a report on the experience and lessons learnt on multisectoral governance in MPTF countries. Expected by December 2022.   
Tasks:

  • Identify the needs interests and priorities of MPTF countries for support in enhancing and strengthening governance structures.
  • Provide advice and signpost to countries relevant tools and evidence 
  • Facilitate collaboration between MPTF countries  and the piloting of tools where appropriate. 
  • Manage an action learning set/community of practice of interested countries on optimal approaches to coordination in different contexts.
  • Synthesize results. 

Deliverable 4
Update the section in the AMR National Action Plan implementation handbook on multisectoral governance. 
 
Education
Essential:

  • At least ten years of relevant experience on governance and accountability mechanisms at regional and national levels, incorporating multisectoral and multidisciplinary approaches. 
  • At least ten years of working experience in or with developing /resource poor countries.

 
Desirable: Experience working with WHO, FAO, OIE or UNEP.
 
Skills/ Knowledge

  • Knowledge of AMR or other One Health issues;
  • Excellent writing skills;
  • Ability to work under pressure with conflicting priorities;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Computer literacy and experience in organizing and managing virtual meetings and consultations.

This is a soup-to-nuts residential course on antibiotics, antibiotic resistance, and antibiotic R&D. The course is very intense, very detailed, and gets rave reviews. Bonus feature: For obvious reasons, the course didn’t happen in 2020! But as a celebration of the course’s 5th year, a webinar version was held on 29 Oct 2020: go here to stream it.

    • Building on the success of the previous Call to Action on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) conferences held in Berlin (2017) and Ghana (2018), the governments of Denmark, Colombia, Ghana and Zambia, with the International Centre for AMR Solutions (ICARS), UN Foundation, UNICEF and the Wellcome Trust, are together organising a follow-up event to advance the response to rising rates of drug-resistant infections.
