Dear All,
The Global Leaders Group on Antimicrobial Resistance (GLG AMR) chaired by Her Excellency Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley of Barbados is putting out a call for more members!
Founded in 2020 by the Quadripartite, the GLG AMR has been fundamental to steady build of global awareness about AMR at senior political levels. One example of their impact is their paper on evidence (19 Apr 2024 newsletter: “GLG-AMR: AMR will lower global life expectancy by 1.8y. The fix pays for itself”). They were also very visible during the recent High-Level Meeting on AMR (HLM AMR).
In line with their Terms of Reference, the Quadripartite Joint Secretariat on Antimicrobial Resistance is soliciting a call for expressions of interest from serving or former ministers, senior government officials or leaders at the regional institutions, foundations, civil society organizations and the private sector across human health, animal health, agri-food sectors, climate and the environment, finance, and industry, acting in their individual capacities to fill current vacancies.
The GLG formally meets around three times a year, either virtually or in person. Informal or technical meetings to discuss specific issues are held virtually on an ad hoc basis. GLG members are expected to contribute to political and policy discussions and review draft documents and may be requested to represent the GLG in international fora. New GLG members will be expected to join the GLG in first quarter of 2025 for an initial two-year term.
More details on how to apply can be found here. Deadline is 31 January 2025! Could this be perfect for you or someone you know? Please share with anyone you think might be interested!
All best wishes, –jr

John’s Top Recurring Meetings
Virtual meetings are easy to attend, but regular attendance at annual in-person events is the key to building your network and gaining deeper insight. My personal favorites for such in-person meetings are below. Of particular value for developers are the AMR Conference and the ASM-ESCMID conference. Hope to see you there!

Upcoming meetings of interest to the AMR community:
- 18-24 Nov 2024 (everywhere): World AMR/Antibiotic Awareness Week. Events are happening globally. I can’t show them all … you should do a search of the form “MyCountry World AMR Awareness week.” As examples, see the summary webpages from WHO, the US CDC, the European CDC, and the Australian Safety and Quality Commission!
- 4-5 Dec 2024 (in person, Washington, DC): “Fungal Dx 2024: Fungal Diagnostics in Clinical Practice” is a 2-day in-person workshop organized by ISHAM‘s Fungal Diagnostics Working Group. The program and registration links are available at https://fungaldx.com/; the agenda is comprehensive and features an all-star global list of speakers.
- [NEW] 12 Dec 2024 (virtual, 11am ET): A CDC AMR Exchange webinar entitled “It’s Time for Action: Working Together to Achieve the Targets of the 2024 UNGA High-level Meeting on AMR Political Declaration.” With a focus on actionable next steps, the agenda includes discussants from CDC, Gallup, and the WHO Task Force of AMR Survivors. Go here to register.
- 28-29 Jan 2025 (online and in-person, Washington, DC): PACCARB (US Presidential Advisory Council on Combatting Antimicrobial Resistant Bacteria): This particular meeting of PACCARB is unusually important as it will seek (i) public input into NAP for CARB 2025-2030 and (ii) work to sustain the momentum regarding the commitments at the High-Level Meeting on AMR at the 2024 UN General Assembly (UNGA HLM AMR).
