Start your engines! BARDA antibiotic procurement RFP / CARB-X 2019 funding round webinar

Dear All: Two things of note this afternoon…

First, the previously noted BARDA RFP to acquire biothreat antibiotics is now posted here with submissions accepted through 21 June 2019:

  • “Under this RFP, BARDA plans to support the procurement of antibiotic(s), which will either be delivered to the ASPR/SNS or maintained as VMI, using Project BioShield (PBS) funds.
  • “PBS funds will also support the necessary late-stage development to complete the regulatory pathway for a biothreat indication for the antibiotic(s) being procured (if applicable) and/or efforts related to post-marketing commitments.”

Second, Kevin Outterson, CARB-X Executive Director, and Karen Gallant, CARB-X Global R&D Project Director, will present details of CARB-X’s four new funding rounds and answer questions during a special webinar May 16, 2019, 9 AM – 10 AM ET. You can register here for the webinar. After the webinar, a recording will be available here.

Good stuff! Go to it!

All best wishes, –jr

Leaky pipe(line)s, Part 2 / CARB-X reboot / WHO 2021 pipeline review

Dear All, We have a 3-part discussion today on the theme of “I want a new drug … so how do I find it?” Off we go! First, the 14 June 2022 newsletter entitled “Leaky Pipe(lines) / When Is A Molecule A Drug” generated further discussions that are worth sharing: It was noted the microdosing

Antibiotic procurement models for LMICs / G7 Leaders call for Pull!

Dear All, Two stops on our tour today: (i) an excellent survey of incentive models and (ii) a final communique from the recent G7 meetings. First up, CGD (Center for Global Development) have released a report (link) entitled “Leveraging Purchasing Systems to Ensure Access, Stewardship, and Innovation: A Landscape Review of Current and Potential Market Structures
